California Christian Camps
Choosing a Christian Camp in California
Finding the perfect camp
Now that you have an idea of what you are looking for a in a camp, it's time to start finding a camp that will meet your expectations.
Here are some things to consider when researching Christian camps in California:
Internet
- Include "California Christian" in your searches.
- Check out their "Staff" pages - how do they market themselves to potential employees?
- Keep a file of brochures you get from camps that seem of interest, even if you've already made plans for that year.
- If you like something that one camp does/says, but don't necessarily want to go to that camp, see if other camps can do a similar thing.
- Christian conferences are a great way to meet some camp staff in person.
- Network with other leaders to gain honest feedback on their experiences with different camps you are considering.
- From co-workers and fellow youth leaders
- From your students - Have they or their friends been to a camp that they can't say enough good things about?
- From camps - If you like a camp, but decide not to go with them because they don't meet your specific needs, ask them who they think might be best at meeting those needs.
- Explain your goals to them - Can they meet them?
- Is your group large enough or too large for them?
- How does the reservation process work?
- When do you commit to how many people you are brining?
- What are the deposit/refund policies?
- What do they provide you to help you promote your trip?
- What is not included in this price? Will individuals need to bring extra money for food, snacks, games, special activities...?
- What are typical meals during the time you'll be there?
- Can you visit in person, and would you be able to meet some staff that would be on your trip during that visit?
